Everyone says second babies come quickly. Well, Aditi clearly took that as a challenge.

She decided she wasn’t interested in waiting for her due date and arrived a full two weeks early.

Thankfully, there was one person who wasn’t surprised. My doctor, Dr. Indu in Cochin, had predicted that Aditi would make her appearance that week and advised my husband accordingly. Thanks to her foresight, he arrived in Cochin well ahead of the original timeline.

I already trusted Dr. Indu completely. She had delivered my first child and had also been the doctor for most of my cousins baby births, so when she said Aditi might come early, we paid attention.

"Every birth is different- my 2 births were completely different from each other."

At around 11:30 p.m., I started feeling contractions. Realizing this was the real thing, we rushed to the hospital, which was thankfully only ten minutes from home—a detail that became increasingly important as the night progressed.

This labour was nothing like my first. The contractions intensified incredibly quickly, catching me completely off guard. I had already decided I didn’t want an epidural, but I wasn’t prepared for the pain to become so intense so fast. Just as I was trying to process what was happening, the doctor informed me that I was dilating rapidly and that it would soon be time to push.

And then, almost before we knew it, our little Aditi arrived.

Less than an hour and a half after we reached the hospital, she was in our arms—a dramatic contrast to the nine-and-a-half hours of labour I had experienced with my first child.

True to form, Aditi made an early entrance and wasted absolutely no time getting here.
